Private Car Tax Rates from January 2013

Private car motor tax rates are to rise in January 2013 following another budget which saw increases in taxes generally (no mater what they say) and reductions in some basic rights such as unemployment assistance and child benefit.

But what about the hard pressed motorist. Where has the lobby group gone of the 80’s and 90’s? These increases will mean an extra €47 million annually will be paid by Irish motorists from 2013.

Two Motor Tax Systems

There are two motor tax systems in operation. One is for cars which are registered before 1st of July 2008 and the other is based on the CO2 emissions for cars registered after the 1st July 2008.
