Manual Handling Training Course specifically for drivers

Manual Handling  for Drivers” is designed for drivers & helpers who are dealing with any transporting or supporting of a load  which includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving, which by reason of its characteristics or of unfavourable ergonomic conditions involves risk, particularly of back injury.

This dynamic training provides practical guidance on the Manual Handling of Loads Regulation, which forms part of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007

  2. Reduction of Manual Handling
  3. Risk Assessment of Manual Handling Tasks

This course is tailored to the requirements of “Drivers & Helpers” and includes the following;

  • Legislation
  • Structure of the Spine
  • Injury to the Spine
  • Fitness & Diet
  • Ergonomics
  • Principles of Safe Moving & Handling
  • Practical Exercise. Including skill tests

Particular attention will be given to the work areas associated with manual handling for Professional Drivers in all industries;

  • Loading & Unloading vehicles
    • Opening Curtains on Curtainsiders;
    • Climbing onto Trailer/loads/s
    • Entering & Exiting Cabs
    • Use of Hand Pallet trucks
    • Use of trollies/carts/sack cars
    • Lifting after continuous period of driving
    • Lifting from car tailgates
      • Simple exercises to avoid injuries
      • Simple stretching exercises to relieve driver tension



The “Manual Handling for Drivers” course is available Saturday Mornings and midweek by appointment

Fetac level 6 Certified Instructor

Certificate available to participants on successful completion
