The National Ploughing Championships 2012 gets under way next week and as reported on our Twitter Feed this week the signs and directions are already up around the Carlow and Kilkenny areas.

This year the event is in Heathpark, New Ross, Co Wexford.


Route 1 (Blue) Traffic from Munster, & South Kilkenny via Waterford & New Ross

Travel via the Waterford by-pass on the N. 25 towards New Ross.
Cross O’Hanrahan Bridge at New Ross and proceed along the quay on the N.25 eastbound to Ballinaboola.
Turn left in Ballinaboola and access Blue Car Parks (on right)

Route 2 (Orange) Connacht & Midlands via Kilkenny & Thomastown

Traffic entering Kilkenny will be directed to the Ring Road and proceed to the Bennetsbridge Road roundabout (junctionwith the R700)
Proceed on the R.700 through Bennetsbridge, Thomastown and Inistioge to New Ross.
Cross the ‘Ferry Bridge’ turning left onto the N.30 (eastbound).
Proceed on N.30 and follow the directional signs to access the Orange Car Parks.

Route 3 (Green)Traffic from North West, Midlands travelling via Carlow or M.9 Motorway

Traffic travelling on the M.9 exit at Junction 5 (Carlow) onto the N.80 Enniscorthy Road
Traffic travelling from the midlands to Carlow follow directional signs to the N.80 Bunclody/Enniscorthy Road.
Proceed to Bunclody turning right onto the R.746.
Follow directional signs to the junction with the N.30 (Enniscorthy to New Ross Road) at Ballymackesy cross.
At Ballymackesy cross turn right onto the N.30 proceed through Clonroche village taking a left turn towards Heathpark and follow signs to the Green Car Parks.

Route 4 (Purple) Traffic from Dublin, Northern Ireland via Belfast/Newry, Wicklow

M.11 / N.11 southbound.
Proceed on the N.11, through Ferns and Enniscorthy following the signs for Wexford.
At Ballindinas roundabout (at Wexford town), take the third exit onto the N.25 towards New Ross
Turn right at Carrickbyrne (before the Garda Station) and follow signs to the Purple Car Parks.

Route 5 (Yellow) South Wexford (South of N.25)

Traffic from south Wexford (south of the N.25) should proceed via Wellingtonbridge or the Duncannon Line to the villages of Ballinaboola or Newbawn.
Follow directional signage to access the Yellow Car Parks.

Bus and Coach Drivers

There are three designated coach / bus parking areas and when you arrive follow the signs directing you to the nearest area.

Parking for Irish Wheelchair Association Permit holders

Vehicles displaying valid passes issued by the Irish Wheelchair Association will be permitted to park in the allocated parking areas which are designated in the Blue, Yellow and Purple car parks. Each car parking area is in close proximity to the Exhibition Area and is clearly signposted.

A one way system will be in operation from 06:00 each day of the event and will alternate the opposite way from around 15:00 to facilitate traffic.
