Bus Eireann drivers are on strike due to planned cuts by the company. Prospects of talks are still unlikely as according to the company themselves there is now “no basis” for reconvening talks with unions reported by The Irish Examiner
Private operators tried on Friday the busiest day of the week to facilitate moving an extra 100,000 passengers or more out of the capital city Dublin but were frustrated in their efforts as train services were also affected, Some operators were definitely busier by at least 30% increase in numbers. Extra drivers were called in where extra vehicles were available however operators still had to adhere to only running services at the scheduled times according to the operating route licences.
Bus Eireann have said the following services are the only ones operating at present. Please note the different pickup points on these routes.
Route 1 Dublin-Belfast No Bus Éireann services operating. Translink services are operating. Translink services are at 10:00, 11:00, 12:00, 13:00, 18:00, 19:00, 20:00, 21:00 and 22:00 EX Dublin. Services Ex Dublin will operate from Custom House Quay.
Route 33 Dublin-Derry no Bus Éireann services operating. Translink services are operating. Translink services are at 10:00, 13:00, 17:30 and 22:00. Services from Dublin will operate from Custom House Quay.
GOBE – Dublin Airport-Cork
All services expected to operate with services operating from Dublin city centre will pick up at Georges Quay in Dublin.
Bus drivers operating for private operators are reminded to ensure that they stay within driving tachograph rules as extra hours will be asked of them.
GoBé Cork has suspended all services ex Cork and Dublin from Monday 27th whilst the strike is ongoing.
